How do you know it’s safe?

Our model. Your Impact.

When you rent your spare room or recruit talent with us, you get the safety and
reassurance of a proven model we’ve been testing and fine-tuning for four years.

Here’s how it works…

Six months of background

Candidates are referred to us by trusted partner organisations including Crisis and Shelter. So we already have at least six months of background information before starting our own series of assessments.

Six weeks of assessment

We work with candidates one-on-one for six weeks before making an introduction. We take care of DBS checks. And perform a series of assessments to ensure candidates are reliable, motivated — and ready to thrive given the chance.

Meticulous matching

Next we meticulously match suitable candidates with an employer and a host. We spend time understanding your needs first, because we don’t take this responsibility lightly.

Zero-Risk

As a host, Standing Tall pays your rent straight to you for the first three months.

As a business, Standing Tall employs your new teammate on your behalf for the first three months.

Step-by-step

Candidates grow in confidence from day one, because our strengths-based approach helps to rebuild self esteem. After six months they’re ready to get the keys to their own place.

Your first thought might be that people who’ve experienced homelessness have probably got an addiction. Or mental health issues.

Who can blame you? The tabloids sensationalise homelessness. It’s one of societies most complex and misunderstood challenges.

People get trapped in a cycle of dependency on services. And some people never even get a chance.

We exist to help you change all that.

There is a way out. And now you can be part of it.

We’ve been helping people to move away from the streets for four years. Our person-centred model was born in the night shelters in Birmingham.

It’s the combination of a safe home AND a stable job that helps people get back on their feet.

So now you can safely help someone to move away from the streets for good.

Just by doing something you were going to do anyway.

Let’s address the elephant in the room…

— Carmen, Amici Host

“One of the major reasons I do it is because of my parents who came from Jamaica. They told me how difficult it was for them when they came to London to get a place because of their colour and that has always stayed with me. If there hadn't been people who did that for my mum and dad, what would life have been like for them and me?

"My parents needed somewhere to live and someone opened the door for them. My friends say how can I do it? But I don't feel nervous with a man in my house - I'm in my home. If I didn't get a good feeling from the right person for the house, then I wouldn't say yes. I wouldn't do it if I felt frightened.

"They come to the home, tell you their story and then you can see if they fit into your lifestyle. They need to know they can settle into my living space and you have a contract with Standing Tall where you can set the rules of what's allowed. I feel confident that if something were to happen, Standing Tall is there."

“Becoming an Amici Host was the best decision I ever made”

“Another string to your bow for the recruitment process”

— Kirsty Davies-Chinnock, Standing Tall Employer

“There are lots of reasons for other businesses to get involved with Standing Tall.

You're going to add another string to your bow for the recruitment process — so it's going to benefit you as a company.

Who wouldn't want to help make the world a better place for a single individual who's also going to become a respected colleague and a great team member?"
